Join us for “Making Sense of Medications in Lewy Body Dementia”, with Dr. Matt Barrett of Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). Designed to provide a clear and informative overview for individuals living with Lewy body dementia (LBD) and their care partners, this webinar will explain the most commonly used medications in LBD, why certain drugs may be helpful, and which ones should be avoided due to sensitivities unique to LBD. Dr. Barrett will also discuss the potential side effects and medication-related challenges that occur more frequently in LBD, to help you know what to watch for as treatment plans evolve. Join us for “Strategies for Support: Transfer Techniques,” an insightful and practical webinar designed for anyone supporting individuals living with Lewy body dementia (LBD). Led by Heather Cianci, PT, MS, GCS, you will learn safe and efficient methods for transferring individuals with LBD and techniques that help reduce the risk of injury for both the person assisting and the individual receiving support. You will also discover effective cuing approaches that promote clearer communication and cooperation, making daily activities more manageable. At the end of the webinar, you will be able to: Learn practical techniques for safely transferring individuals with LBD, minimizing the risk of injury for everyone involved. Discover effective cuing strategies that support understanding and collaboration, helping daily tasks proceed more smoothly. Explore valuable resources and support networks to help you navigate the challenges of providing care, ensuring you are well-equipped to offer compassionate and effective assistance. About Heather Cianci, PT, MS, GCS Heather is the founding therapist of the Dan Aaron Parkinson’s Rehabilitation Center at Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia, PA – a partner with the University of Pennsylvania’s Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders Center (PDMDC). She received her bachelor’s in physical therapy from the University of Scranton and her master’s in gerontology from Saint Joseph’s University. Heather has been a physical therapist since 1994 and received her board certification in geriatrics in 1999 from the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties. She holds many exercise-specific certifications for Parkinson's and serves as an LSVT® BIG Faculty Instructor for LSVT Global, Inc., and Co-coordinator and PT Faculty for the Parkinson’s Foundation’s Team Training Program. Heather has authored book chapters on rehabilitative strategies for PD and dementia and is also the author of the Parkinson’s Foundation’s educational manual “Fitness Counts.” She teaches about rehabilitation and PD at Thomas Jefferson University (Philadelphia, PA) and Neumann University (Aston, PA) and is active in research on exercise and PD. Heather is former board member for CurePSP and the lead physical therapist of the Comprehensive Outpatient Atypical Parkinsonism Clinic at the PDMDC.
