Beyond Stages: Making Sense of Change in LBD

Calendar

November 17, 2026 @ 12:00 PM EST

Unlike some other dementias, Lewy body dementia (LBD) does not have clearly defined stages, making it difficult for individuals and families to know what to expect or how to plan ahead. Symptoms may shift from day to day—or even hour to hour—with changes in thinking, attention, movement, sleep, mood, and perception that can feel unpredictable and hard to interpret.

In this Thriving Day to Day webinar, Lucille Carriere, PhD and Dylan Wint, MD will discuss why LBD progression is better understood as a pattern of changing needs rather than a step-by-step stage model. You will learn how to recognize meaningful changes, communicate with healthcare providers, adapt care routines, and stay grounded while planning for an uncertain and fluctuating journey.

At the end of the webinar, you will be able to:

  1. Explain why LBD is not typically described in fixed stages and how symptom fluctuations can complicate expectations for progression.
  2. Identify changes in cognition, movement, sleep, mood, and perception that may signal evolving care needs for a person living with LBD.
  3. Apply practical strategies for planning and adapting care when symptoms are variable, progression is uncertain and needs change over time.
