The joint Research Center of Excellence is a collaboration between Mayo Clinic in Phoenix/Scottsdale, Arizona, and Banner Sun Health Research Institute (BSHRI) in Sun City, Arizona. This partnership builds upon a 20-year legacy of collaborative research established by the Arizona Study of Aging and Neurodegenerative Disease (AZSAND)/Brain and Body Donation Program (BBDP), integrating shared Lewy body dementia (LBD) resources, expertise, and research initiatives across the East and West Valley of greater Phoenix area. Together, the institutions leverage the specialized skills of more than 40 multidisciplinary team members. This team brings together movement disorders and behavioral neurology specialists, neuropsychologists, psychiatrists, psychologists, and therapists (including occupational, physical, and speech professionals), as well as compassionate social workers and case managers. Each member of this collaborative network is committed to delivering personalized care to individuals with Lewy body disorders and essential support to their families.
Enhancing this collaborative effort, both Mayo Clinic and Banner Sun Health Research Institute are equipped with cutting-edge neuroimaging technologies, advanced biomarker evaluation capabilities and clinical trial infrastructure. These state-of-the-art tools merge clinical excellence and pioneering research, enable early diagnoses of LBD, and pave the way for timely and targeted interventions.
