Efficacy of a Caregiver Training Program in Enhancing Caregiver and Patient Outcomes

The purpose of this study is to evaluate an app-based digital platform that offers both educational and self-care training to caregivers providing support to people living with dementia, including Lewy body dementia (LBD), Alzheimer’s disease, and others.

What is this study about?

Caregiving is commonly acknowledged as one of the most stressful, under-recognized, under-paid, and under-supported responsibilities. This study aims to use assistive technology to enhance caregiver effectiveness, well-being, and quality of life, which will improve overall care for individuals living with dementia.

What’s involved?

The study will be a randomized controlled clinical trial, in which two groups will be compared:

1) A group in which the MapHabit system (MHS) alone is incorporated in the participant’s daily care

2) Another group in which the MapHabit system (MHS) + Caregiver Training Program (CTP) is implemented into the daily care received by participants

This study is aiming to recruit pairs of people, including the person living with dementia and their care partner.

The study duration will be a 6-months.

Who can participate?

A person may be able to take part in the study if they:

  • Have LBD or another dementia, in the mild to moderate stages
  • Are at least 60 years of age
  • Have a primary care partner who is at least 18 years of age and willing to participate in the study
  • Is proficient in English
