Medical Research Funding at Risk from Federal Spending Cuts

Their newest report, Sequestration: Health Research at the Breaking Point, illustrates the dire consequences of automatic spending cuts (sequestration) in the federal budget, which could reduce funding for research agencies by approximately $3.6 billion in 2013 alone. Federal agencies like the National Institutes of Health, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Food and Drug Administration, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, and the National Science Foundation would lose critical funding for innovative research and programs that save lives and drive economic growth.
