LBDA Volunteer Corner
This month for the LBDA Volunteer Corner, I would like to highlight a special volunteer. Samantha Komulainen-York has a personal connection to Lewy body dementia (LBD) and is excited about volunteering with the Lewy Body Dementia Association. As an added bonus she is going to participate in the Miss Maine pageant in June of 2013 and in honor of her grandmother she has chosen an LBD platform.
Samantha says, “After losing my grandmother to LBD this past September, I feel it is my duty to spread awareness about this devastating disease and share her story. As I represent my beautiful Lakes Region community in this year’s Miss Maine pageant, I will be doing just that! My platform is “Keeping Our Memories Close; Lewy Body Dementia Awareness,” and my goal is to make some noise and get people talking about what we can do to stop this disease in its tracks. Awareness starts with a voice, and I have a pretty loud one!”
We congratulate her and wish her well in the upcoming competition!

We Want Your Feedback
LBDA is testing a new training method. For your convenience, we will be recording some training and presentations. The first presentation, “LBD: When It Isn’t Alzheimer’s,” provides attendees with an overview of Lewy body dementia in easy-to-understand language. To view this presentation, please click here. To help ensure that LBDA continues to provide quality education and services to our constituents, please provide feedback by clicking here.
