 A Real Life Christmas Story
Last week a woman I know through my exercise class was at the doctor's office with her husband who has a serious medical condition. When they called her husband's first name "Steve" to come back to an exam room, another man sitting next to him, also apparently named Steve went back to the nurse. She said "I mean 'Steve Dimarco'" and then she came back and got the other man named Steve and took him back to a room.
After "Steve Dimarco" came out, a young woman who had been sitting near them with the "other Steve" asked my friend's husband if he had gone to a certain high school, and if he had dated a woman named "Stacey" in high school. He answered in the affirmative. She said "Did you know you have a son also named 'Steve Dimarco' and you just saw him when the nurse called for Steve?" He said he had no idea that "Stacey" had been pregnant, had his son, and put him up for adoption right after birth. Stacey insisted that the baby maintain the name "Steve Dimarco" after he was adopted. Then she asked if he wanted to meet his son, who had been told his whole life not to bother looking for his father because his father did not want him and did not want to have anything to do with him. He and his wife both said they'd love to meet him, they did, and they have folded him into their family. They had never had children and they are thrilled to be in their early 60's and find that they have a new son, and he is thrilled to be in their lives.
My friend said when her husband met his son he turned to her and said "now I have something to live for." His physical symptoms have improved a lot since last week when they first met. Their brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews have embraced their new relative. It is said that the 2 men look so much alike and their mannerisms are so much the same it's amazing! I thought you all might find this story as uplifting as I did, just when we all need something positive to hear about. Lynn

Re: A Real Life Christmas Story
Lynn, What a beautiful heartfelt story , as you know I am an adoptee and been involved with adoption matters for years and if you knew how many times a child was told that their birth parents wanted nothing to do with them it would amaze you. I hope you don't miind but I would like to share your story with no names of course just so others that are out there still searching know there is always hope in finding a birth family. It took me over 25 yrs but I found mine and was able to spend a few yrs with my birth Mother before she passed and I look just like her and have many of her mannerisms too, it is amazing that could be possible after 45 yrs. Thanks Lynn for sharing this wonderful story with all of us here !

Re: A Real Life Christmas Story
Irene - I'm sure they'd be thrilled that you will share their amazing, happy story. It turns out, their story was on the evening news here last night so it is ok to use their real names if you'd like. The 2 men are actually named Steve Ditillio. Because I don't know the birth mother I won't reveal her name out of respect for her privacy.
It is so sad that people would lie to kids and tell them not to seek out their birth parents. I'm glad you were able to get to know your birth mother, Irene.
But luckily this story has a happy ending, and hopefully Steve Sr.'s health will continue on a more positive note so he and his newly found son will have many years to get to know one another.
